Field Ant

Field ants are typically reddish-brown or dark brown and range from 1/8 to 1/4 inch long. They are characterized by a smooth, convex thorax and a single node petiole. These ants do not have spines or hairs projecting from the thorax.

Field ants often nest outdoors in exposed soil, under rocks, or in decaying logs. Inside homes, look for foraging trails of ants, particularly around food and moisture sources. You might also discover small piles of excavated soil or debris near entry points.
