Wild Boar

Wild boars are stout, pig-like mammals with coarse, bristly hair that is typically dark brown or black. They have a long snout, small eyes, and prominent tusks (especially in males) that protrude from the sides of their mouth. Adults can weigh between 100 and 300 pounds, with some exceeding this weight.

Signs of wild boar activity include rooting in lawns and gardens, where they dig for roots and invertebrates. You might also notice trampled vegetation, disturbed soil, and tracks in muddy areas. Fecal droppings, which are dark and cylindrical, are another indicator of their presence on your property.

MBPC does not directly handle wild boar removal. However, we can assess damage and implement preventative measures to deter them from your property. For removal, we recommend contacting the SC Department of Natural Resources or a licensed wildlife removal specialist in the Grand Strand area. We can advise on repairs and habitat modification after removal.

Install sturdy fencing around gardens and vulnerable areas of your property to deter wild boars. Remove potential food sources, such as fallen fruit and unsecured garbage cans. Motion-activated lights and noisemakers can also help to scare them away from your Myrtle Beach home.

Wild boars thrive in the diverse habitats of coastal South Carolina, including forests, swamps, and agricultural lands. The humid subtropical climate and abundant food sources along the Grand Strand provide ideal conditions for their survival. They often forage near residential areas, particularly those bordering wooded or undeveloped land.
